Understanding and Managing IBS Symptoms

I’m a long-term IBS sufferer.

I was diagnosed in my twenties with both IBS and a helicobacter pylori infection, given three weeks of antibiotics and that was that! But of course, my symptoms came back.  My symptoms were many and varied and I had no clue that they were all connected. If only I’d known then what I know now - that I just had to find the key. Instead, I tried all sorts of diets, supplements and intolerance testing. But nothing worked.

Things came to a head for me five years ago, when after a ‘healthy salad', I found myself on the floor of the ladies’ loo with my legs up the wall, rubbing my stomach (yes in a clockwise direction), thinking ENOUGH… I have to sort this out. By this time, I was reading everything I could on nutrition, but I needed more. I needed to understand the science, I had to understand what was going on in my body.

Fortunately, I discovered Nutritional Therapy, and it ticked all my boxes. It’s both science and evidence based, from the cellular level, to how digestion works, from the mouth right through to the….well….other end. It looks at what affects our hormones, our immune system and more, much much more.

I learned all about what works for me and now I understand how to manage my symptoms. This means I have a choice with food ‘Is eating this worth it?’ Of course, every person’s gut health and symptoms are different and I’m here to share everything I’ve learned and advise on your particular situation so you too will have a choice.

My passion now, as a qualified Nutritional Therapist, is to empower everyone with the knowledge and tools they need to take control of their own health and understand what are the root causes of their symptoms.  I take a holistic view of every client I work with, looking at the person as a whole, not just at the individual symptoms. I take into consideration your long-term medical history, your daily life, your family and who you support or care for.  Of course, I also need to get to know your diet, not only what you eat, but when and how. I study all of your symptoms, even those that you may not think are connected to your gut issues.  Our bodies are beautifully interconnected, so how can we focus on one symptom without realising the impact that might have on us somewhere else.

Let’s work together to give you a healthier gut and a symptom-free life.
